After a four-year hiatus, Lykke Li is finally bringing us brand-new music. The singer has announced her sixth studio album, The Afterparty. Alongside the exciting news, she also revealed that this record will mark the final chapter of her career. For the album, Lykke Li entered the studio with a full orchestra to record the entire body of work — sessions she described in her press statement as “apocalyptic bongos.”

She went on to hint at the story behind the project: “I find that we’re in an era where everyone is talking about, ‘My higher self.’ Fuck that. This is an album dealing with your lower self: your need for revenge, your shame, despair — all of it.” The first single offering a glimpse into this darker space is ‘Lucky Again’.

Over a beautifully curated production blending African drums with sweeping violins, Lykke Li lays her emotions bare. Her distinctive voice sounds more fragile — and more powerful — than ever as she sings, “I am lost, I am bruised, I am broken. No sign, I shout into darkness. No light, it’s a black hole. It’s so dark out, oh Lord.” Before ultimately pleading to get lucky in order to feel lucky again.
