Olivia Dean
“Baby Steps”
Released 26.09.2025

Olivia Dean had a great night last night. Not only did she perform at the Grammy Awards for the very first time, she also took home the award for Best New Artist 2026. Even though Olivia has been releasing music for years, her global breakthrough arrived with The Art of Loving. The award is more than deserved — though we can’t help but wish it was called Breakthrough Artist of the Year. It would feel more respectful to the career that led up to this moment. But enough of our opinions — back to Olivia.

Fresh off her big win, we want to take a moment to celebrate her and spotlight our favourite deep cut from the album. The soulful and sweet ‘Baby Steps’ is inspired by Olivia’s love for Marvin Gaye. The song takes her back to the days following a breakup, capturing the slow process of rebuilding self-love and independence. It speaks to the urge to move forward while accepting that healing comes in small, careful steps.

The track fits perfectly alongside the album’s singles, all of which have already charted in the top ten. ‘Baby Steps’ feels like the obvious next candidate to follow in their footsteps. It’s relatable and beautifully written.

Congratulations to Olivia Dean on winning the Best New Artist Grammy — a moment that feels long overdue.
